Animal Science Manager

Alimetrics Research Oy is an established Finnish contract research organisation with 23 years of experience. We provide research and analysis services for international companies engaged in feed additive development. Since 2022, Alimetrics Research has been part of Associated British Foods. We employ 16 specialists, and our core scientific expertise is in the investigation and monitoring of gastrointestinal health indicators in production animals. Our administrative office and research laboratory are in Espoo. Additionally, we operate poultry and swine research farms in the Somero region.

Currently, our most important clients are companies developing health-promoting feed ingredients for production animals. In our typical assignments, we evaluate novel products using both proprietary laboratory models and controlled feeding trials in poultry and swine, study their modes of action, explore microbiological and immunological parameters related to health, and help our clients apply scientific information to their product development and marketing.

We are now seeking a highly capable Animal Science Manager to lead our feeding trial research activities and contribute to the continued growth of our business.

Education:

· An academic degree (preferably a PhD) in veterinary medicine, production animal science, animal nutrition, animal physiology, or a related field.

Key responsibilities:

· Leads the planning of poultry and swine feeding trials for clients.

· Schedules trials in accordance with agreed project plans.

· Designs experimental feed formulations for the trials.

· Leads scientific discussions with clients and drives sales of feeding trials.

· Takes responsibility for trial reporting to clients.

· Communicates with relevant authorities and applies for trial permits when required.

· Works closely with the Farm Manager.

· Collaborates with research institutes, universities, laboratories, industry partners, and internal technical teams.

Essential qualifications and characteristics:

· At least five years of relevant work experience and a strong understanding of production animals and diet formulation.

· Authorship of peer-reviewed scientific publications.

· Practical experience in handling live production animals.

· Good understanding of Finnish and EU regulations governing animal trials.

· Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

· Ability to work effectively in a matrix organisation with multiple stakeholders and under time pressure.

· Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with colleagues, customers, and research partners.

· A valid driving licence.

· Fluent written and spoken English.

Desirable qualifications and characteristics:

· Hands-on experience in statistical analysis and interpretation of animal performance data.

· Experience in feed additive product development and the animal nutrition industry.

· Finnish language skills.

The position is permanent and full-time and is based at Alimetrics Research in Espoo, Finland. The role requires frequent visits to our poultry and swine research farms in the Somero region and occasional travel to customer sites, scientific meetings, conferences, and research partners. Practical work associated with animal trials may occasionally require extended working hours.
